Montcalm County Recent Arrests
The county publishes no verified live booking list. The official Jail Services page points the public elsewhere. It lists an automated court-date and status line at 989-831-7592. That phone number is the county's own answer to custody questions. MI-VINE covers anyone enrolled in its custody-notification system. Sheriff's releases and local news stories can add detail on selected arrests. Neither one serves as a complete booking roster, though. Phone status, VINE, and court data serve separate purposes. A fresh arrest may appear in one long before the others.
| Lookup window | Official public view | Best verified route | Important limit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Same day / just booked | No official 24-hour feed located | Jail/status line and MI-VINE | No published refresh time or photo rule |
| Several days / weekly | Selective sheriff releases; no complete blotter | FOIA, MiCOURT, official releases and local reporting | Stories omit routine bookings |
| Current county custody | No verified web roster | 989-831-7592 and MI-VINE | A missing result is not proof no arrest occurred |
Two companion pages split the work cleanly. 24 Hour Arrests handles same-day lookups, while Arrest Log follows the multi-day route through official releases and news blotters. Neither invents a list the county never posts.
Who Was Arrested Last Night?
Start with 989-831-7592 for anyone reportedly arrested last night. Then run a name through VINELink Check to test custody status. The county's MiCOURT instructions are the right stop. Use them for a filed court case rather than a jail question. One caution applies. The county warns that court status may lag until after 3 p.m. That is not a booking-feed promise. A police incident record can exist before jail intake even happens. Releases can also slip in ahead of a later search. The official Jail Services source shows the county's status fallback rather than any public roster.
When no same-day web list exists, the county's own page is the right first stop.
The Montcalm County Jail Roster
Montcalm County posts no public custody roster. It posts no searchable booking page either. The county's official navigation lists no roster-photo view or jail lookup app. There is no published refresh schedule, weekend practice, or online photograph policy to describe. A directory page repeating the jail's street address is not a roster in disguise.
| Information sought | Where to check | What is confirmed |
|---|---|---|
| Current status or court date | 989-831-7592 | County automated status channel; court updates can require a call after 3 p.m. |
| Release, transfer or escape alerts | MI-VINE / VINELink | Covered custody events and registration, not a full photo roster |
| Filed public court case | MiCOURT | Search by full name plus birth year, or case number |
| Booking card or photograph | County FOIA coordinator | Request subject to review, exemptions, redaction and fees |
- Call the jail/status line with the person's full name and enough identifying context to avoid a mistaken match.
- Use MI-VINE for a covered custody search and notifications; do not treat it as a booking-photo database.
- Check MiCOURT for the later public case and disposition, remembering that non-public files do not appear.
- Submit a focused FOIA request for the intake record or photograph when the actual government document is needed.
The jail itself sits at 649 N State Street in Stanton. It opened in 2002 with 119 beds. Expansions added 52 beds in 2003. Another 24 came in 2006, bringing the total to 205. The official page lists 20 full-time correction officers and four sergeants. That growth explains why many city bookings end up at this shared county facility. Bed counts say nothing about who is in custody today.
Where Montcalm County Arrests Are Published
Official channels lead because they state their own limits. The sheriff's Facebook page and Nixle alerts carry selected releases, not every arrest. The Daily News, FOX 17, Big Rapids Daily News, and WOOD Radio each report individual arrest and court stories. All are independent journalism rather than jail rosters.
| Channel | Photos? | Status | How to use it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Jail/status line | No online photo view confirmed | Official | Call 989-831-7592 for the status information provided |
| MI-VINE | Not a photo gallery | Official service | Custody search and covered notifications |
| Sheriff releases / Facebook | Post-specific | Official but selective | Public-safety announcements, not comprehensive bookings |
| MiCOURT route | No booking-photo promise | Official court source | Public case and disposition follow-up |
| Mugshots.com Montcalm page | May display historical images | Unofficial | Never use for current custody or disposition |
| JailExchange | Not a verified live county display | Unofficial directory | Verify every claim with county, VINE or court |
The major mugshot aggregators list no verified Montcalm-local section for BustedNewspaper, RecentlyBooked, Arrests.org, or Mugshots.zone. Never guess at a county URL on those sites. Aggregators can be stale, incomplete, or flat wrong about who is still in custody.
Recent Arrests by City
City police records and county custody records can belong to different offices. A person can still land in the same jail. Greenville Recent Arrests walks through the Greenville Department of Public Safety. It also explains its structured FOIA form. Howard City Recent Arrests covers the village police merger into the Montcalm County Sheriff's Office. Stanton Recent Arrests looks at the Stanton Police Department. The county seat sits near the jail and courts. None of these cities runs its own complete online arrest log. City and county records still answer different questions about the same event.
- Greenville Recent Arrests: city incident records, county booking, VINE and court follow-up.
- Howard City Recent Arrests: sheriff-policed village context and county custody checks.
- Stanton Recent Arrests: city police contacts and the county jail/court record chain.
What a Montcalm Arrest Record Shows
A booking record documents jail intake and custody. It is not a court judgment. Michigan General Schedule 11 describes what an inmate jacket may hold: intake records, booking cards, mug shots, classification papers, court documents, arrest cards, bonds, warrants, and release materials. That schedule proves the record family exists. It does not promise every field is posted online or handed over automatically.
| Field | Meaning and Montcalm limitation |
|---|---|
| Name and identifier | Name connects jail, VINE and court searches; an inmate number exists as a bond-payment identifier, but its public format is unconfirmed. |
| Booking date and arresting agency | Useful FOIA request fields; neither is displayed in a verified public county roster. |
| Charges as booked | Charges recorded at intake; court charges may later change. |
| Bond | Verify the person-specific amount and type with jail or court. Published payment methods do not prove release. |
| Court date/status | Available through the automated line and later public case record, subject to update and access limits. |
| Booking photograph | May exist in the inmate jacket; no county online photo result was verified. |
| Facility and custody state | Montcalm County Jail is the county facility; confirm a person's current custody through the official channels. |
| Disposition | The later legal result belongs to the court record and must not be inferred from booking data. |
Why can a name be missing? Release can hide someone from a search. So can a transfer or a hold in another county. Juvenile and sealed files sit outside public view too. A blank result never proves the arrest did not happen.
Booking Photos After an Arrest
Montcalm County publishes no online roster-photo policy. It posts no web roster at all. The state retention schedule does place mug shots among inmate jacket materials. In Patterson v. Allegan County Sheriff, a Michigan appellate court addressed booking photographs. It treated them as public records on those facts. That ruling does not guarantee automatic release everywhere. FOIA exemptions, open investigations, privacy interests, redaction, and originating-agency rules can all shape the answer. The official MDOC OTIS search interface provides the separate state-corrections route for anyone serving time. It covers state prison, not county custody.
Booking photos from a fresh Montcalm County arrest rarely show up in OTIS. That system tracks MDOC prisoners, probationers, parolees and certain recently discharged people, not a routine county booking. Some OTIS profiles do carry a photo, so it can help for older cases. The unofficial Mugshots.com county page may preserve older material too. Treat it as an archive, not a live custody list. For a correction, use the publisher's own free contact or policy route. Skip paid removal brokers entirely.
How to Obtain an Arrest Record
Montcalm County routes sheriff record requests through FOIA. Mail the County of Montcalm FOIA Coordinator at P.O. Box 368, Stanton, MI 48888. Hand delivery goes to the Office of the County Controller, third floor, Administration Building, 211 W Main Street, Stanton. The office answers at 989-831-7300, fax 989-831-7375.
- Identify the person by full name and, when available, birth year, incident number, inmate number, arresting agency and narrow date range.
- Name the records: arrest/incident report, booking card, intake record, bond or release record, and booking photograph as applicable.
- Submit a written request using the Sheriff's Office Records route; distinguish a city incident report from the county jail record.
- Ask for an electronic copy, a fee estimate, and the legal basis for any withholding or redaction. Michigan FOIA generally provides a five-business-day initial response framework, with a permitted extension; a response is not always production.
- Check the later case in MiCOURT so the booking charge is paired with the disposition.
The county's official records page shows the request channel and custodian context.
A precise request helps the custodian pull a booking record instead of a police incident report or court file. Say exactly what you need. The published sheriff fee schedule lists a $5 general police report and $2 per page for color photographs, plus separate media charges. No booking-photo price appears there. Ask for an estimate first. That color-photo rate is no guaranteed mugshot fee. For an old arrest record, ask whether it still sits with the jail, was destroyed under an approved schedule, or moved elsewhere.
Arrest Records and Michigan Law
Michigan FOIA starts at MCL 15.231. Its exemptions sit in MCL 15.243. Privacy and law-enforcement exemptions are there, Michigan has no anti-pay-to-remove mugshot statute, and a government record, a court set-aside, a publisher copy, and a search-engine result remain four separate layers.
Michigan General Schedule 11 sets the retention clock. Inmate jackets are kept through release plus 10 years. Booking and control-center logs last through the calendar year plus seven years, daily count summaries one more year, and certain jail population reports two more years, all subject to legal holds. These are retention rules, not promises of online disclosure. A conviction set-aside needs the current Michigan Attorney General expungement assistance, MSP, and court instructions. The county offers no standalone booking-photo takedown form. Once a source corrects or removes a page, an official search-engine outdated-content process can refresh the result. It cannot erase a live government page. Use free publisher contact channels with the exact URL and court documentation. Avoid paid-removal solicitations.
Warrants and Most-Wanted Notices
No public warrant-search portal exists. Montcalm County also keeps no standing most-wanted list. The prosecutor's FAQ is blunt: that office cannot confirm a charge or an arrest warrant. The court authorizes a warrant, and the police agency on the case handles it. MiCOURT offers public case clues. It cannot certify warrant status, and the official Law Enforcement Services page documents the sheriff's tip and wanted-resource links.
Those FBI 10 Most Wanted and Silent Observer links are not a Montcalm County wanted roster. Only the responsible court or agency can answer. Someone worried about their own status should call an attorney or that office. Never approach or confront a suspected wanted person. The sheriff tip-message line is 989-831-7593. For an immediate threat, call emergency services; the CMET drug-crime line is 800-342-0406.
After an Arrest: Court and Release
Arrest is only the first step. Arraignment comes next, covering rights, charges and bond. Montcalm County's 64B District Court handles misdemeanors and other matters within its jurisdiction, the 8th Circuit Court takes felonies, and Juvenile Court handles delinquency cases. To search public cases, use a full name plus year of birth or a case number, as the county instructs. The booking entry only starts the story. Court records show whether charges were amended, reduced, dismissed, resolved by plea, tried, or sentenced.
Bond can be paid by cash or card at the jail-lobby kiosk, online through Express Account, or by mailed money order under the county's instructions. Paying does not mean release processing is finished. The official bond and court-information page walks through these mechanics and the timing caveat.
After paying, call the jail status line. MI-VINE alerts, where covered, beat guessing from a receipt or a vanished third-party listing.
State Prison and Federal Custody
A Montcalm County arrest usually starts and ends in county custody, but not always. When a case moves up the ladder, the search tool changes with it. MDOC OTIS tracks people in Michigan prisons, along with parolees, probationers, and some discharged from supervision. You can search it by name or offender number. A profile photo may appear on the results page. Keep in mind what OTIS leaves out, though. An unsentenced new Montcalm arrest generally will not show, and neither will someone sentenced only to county jail. If a photo is what you are after, read the booking-photo discussion first, since images alone answer very little.
Federal custody works the same way, with its own separate tools. The Federal Bureau of Prisons locator finds federal prisoners, and it is not a local arrest feed or a public federal mugshot gallery. The ICE Online Detainee Locator covers certain people held by ICE or recently by CBP, though it excludes anyone under 18. That search demands an exact A-number with a country of birth, or exact biographical details. County VINE makes no promises about BOP, U.S. Marshals, or ICE coverage.
Can one search replace all the others? No. Jail rosters answer the county-custody question. VINE handles covered notifications, MiCOURT follows the public case, OTIS covers state corrections, and each federal locator covers its own system. Match the source to the question. That habit gives the clearest picture of Montcalm County recent arrests.
